A break from the breakage.

We love old houses with lots of character and charm, almost all the time. Well, except for when everything seems to break at once. Which certainly is NOT charming at all. On top of all the "regular" problems that need attention when remodeling an old home, within the last 6 weeks the following have been added to our ever growing, not-shrinking-quickly-enough, list:
  • One of the pipes under our kitchen sink busted. Bry just fixed this, but for about 3 weeks I could only use one side of my sink and we had a big bucket underneath the other to catch any water that snuck over there.
  • Our toilet on the main level has a slow leak under one side.
  • The faucet in the basement kitchen is leaking.
  • At about midnight last night we were wondering why it was so flipping freezing in our house, turns out the furnace decided to go sleep and not wake up... we are trying to revive it, but with no luck so far. In the meantime we are staying bundled.
  • This morning as I was loading dishes I realized that our dishwasher is not draining. Crap.
  • Not only is our house having "issues," but BOTH of our cars decided to give out and had to be towed to the shop in the same week. One is fixed and home, the other is still receiving a lot of TLC. (Much thanks to my Dad for helping us get these cars delivered to the mechanic, and for lending us a car in the meantime.)

We do love our home and are grateful/proud to call it ours. However we, along with our wallets, could use a break from all the "breaking" around here.

Sucks. At least you have a house. Living in APTS is getting old.

Why does everything always happen at the same time? We can relate somewhat and I think our next house won't be a fixer-upper. We're sort of sick of the fixing-upping.

I miss my "charming" older home, but to be honest, I am enjoying having a newer home now that has hardly any breaking going on. I hope your list starts shrinking as inexpensively as possible. Good luck!

Ugh. Erik doesn't really appreciate the "charm" of an older house. I'm pretty sure our next house will be new, if he has anything to do with it. :)
