About Last Tuesday...

I wrote this post last Tuesday, and then forgot to post it. So here it is.

The boys and I had a really nice morning together on Tuesday. Oscar and I rode our bikes, and Angus enjoyed the ride in the bike trailer over to Municipal Park. Oscar did so well paying attention to the rules of the road and my directions about which way to go. While we were playing at the park sand box we saw a family of four deer walk cautiously through the park. The boys ran as close as they could so they could see them better. We walked through the nature center, and then played with the indoor "river." It was really quite an ordinary morning, but it (usually) always so pleasant to be together, with no crazy agenda.

 As we were heading home on the Greenbelt we stopped at a perfect little spot on the river. It was shaded and the water in the river was shallow for quite a ways out. We stopped and played. The boys even forgot to take their helmets off, they just played in the river with them on. At first they threw sticks for a nearby dog. Then we all walked in our shoes through the calm river a little ways to a small sandbar. We threw rocks and dug in the sand. The cool water felt so refreshing on our hot and sticky feet. As we headed back across, a little boy about Oscar's age was watching us and waiting for us. As soon as we stepped up the bank this cute little boy walked right over to Oscar shook his hand and said, "Hi. My name is Griffin. Nice to meet you."  It was so cute, Oscar shyly shook his hand back and told the little boy his name. Angus also joined in the introductions. Within seconds they were playing together on the sand and in the river. They had a great time, so much so that his mom and I even exchanged numbers. Oscar has asked me quite a few times since then if I still have Griffin's number. I assure him I do, and that we will get together with him. It is a really cool thing to watch a child, especially your own reserved child, make a friend. And you just never know when that is going to happen.

It was a really good day.
